The purpose of Child Protection Services is to provide 24-hour assistance in investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect. Caseworkers from one of twelve paired teams respond to reports of possible child abuse or neglect. Referrals can be made by law enforcement, schools, medical professionals, or anyone who feels there is a situation that warrants investigation.
Social Caseworker II work on child abuse or neglect cases and have decision making authority for developing appropriate case/treatment plans for child safety, permanency and well being. They deliver or provide direct services to children and families and must work effectively with individuals and families under stress and difficult circumstances and with persons from diverse backgrounds. Incumbents receive guidance and mentoring from a Child Welfare Senior Social Worker on more difficult cases. Incumbents in these positions provide emergency, and crisis intervention.
Specifically this person:
- Assesses allegations and safety risks of referral cases to include receiving referrals, completing intake and assessment forms, and assessing need for out-of-home placement.
- Provides crisis intervention and on-going counseling as needed to assist families in decision making and problem resolution; acts as advocate for client.
- Prepares and presents case information and documentation to the Courts, state review proceedings, and for communications with attorneys and/or other professionals.
- May be responsible for assessing new cases and referring each case to a specific unit; determines response time frame needed for each case; performs research to obtain additional information from other agencies and individuals as needed.

To Qualify for a Caseworker II:
- Completion of the State Training Academy
- At least one year of experience as a professional social caseworker in either a public or private agency, after obtaining a Bachelor's Degree
- A Master's Degree in Human Behavior Sciences can substitute for the required experience.
- An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.

Other Information to Note:
