The County Assessor is responsible for valuing all real and personal property, including mobile homes, residential and commercial properties and agricultural land for property tax purposes. The Assessor determines the equitable value of property to ensure that each taxpayer pays only his or her fair share of the taxes.

We are looking for an entry level Business Personal Property Appraiser to join our dynamic team of professionals!


Specifically, this position appraises all business personal property through discovery, listing, classifying, and valuing commercial personal properties within Larimer County. Performs a variety of complex computational, and technical appraisal duties in preparation of the personal property assessment rolls. Supports and defends personal property values in accordance with state statutes and guidelines. Maintains personal property records as per state mandates. Performs field appraisals and internal audits in assigned geographical area of Larimer County. Complies with the State of Colorado Assessment Calendar deadlines and Larimer County policies and procedures.


The successful candidate will:

  • Record, calculate, and maintain information about personal property accounts using Assessor appraisal software.
  • Conduct internal and field audits.
  • Educate and assist the public.
  • Prepare and present appraisal reports for hearings.
  • Have strong customer service skills.
  • Communicate clearly
  • Multitask
  • Assemble and analyze data, work with formulas, percentages, fractions, and depreciation schedules.

  • No previous experience required.
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Knowledge of personal property assessment, accounting/bookkeeping, auditing of business assets, property tax, and/or Colorado tax law is desired.
  • Must complete Personal Property Appraisal courses within first 2 years of employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License.

Other Information to Note:

  • An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
