Details

The purpose of Child Protection Services is to provide 24-hour assistance in investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect. Caseworkers from one of eight paired teams respond to reports of possible child abuse or neglect. Referrals can be made by law enforcement, schools, medical professionals, or anyone who feels there is a situation that warrants investigation.

This Child Welfare Social Worker position is designated for persons with general social work qualifications who have no prior child welfare experience. This position is considered an under fill for the Child Welfare Social Worker II position. Incumbents serve a nine-month probationary period and participate in the Child Welfare Academy in order to learn child welfare practices and standards and complete Child Welfare Academy assignments. These positions require incumbents to work effectively with individuals and families under stress, difficult circumstances and from diverse backgrounds.

During the nine-month probationary period, incumbents will work under the guidance of child welfare supervisors or designated experienced child welfare social workers to gain knowledge and expertise necessary to provide professional child welfare social work services to children and families who are subjects of child abuse or neglect.

We also have current openings for a Social Worker II. The Social Caseworker II requirements include completion of the Child Welfare Academy, or at least two years of experience in case management, or a Master of Social Work degree. If you meet these requirements, please apply under the Child Welfare Social Worker II announcement.
