Larimer County Community Development Department is seeking a knowledgable and experienced indivual to join our team as a Code Compliance Specialist. This position performs a variety of responsible, specialized, technical and administrative duties to achieve compliance with Building and Land Use Codes. The Code Compliance Specialist also explains policies and procedures to the public and staff and answers questions regarding the purpose and application of code requirements. This indivual receives, researches, and interacts with the general public to gain compliance with applicable codes and regulations in a tactful and timely manner.
Specifically, this position:
Receives, researches, and responds to technical questions and complaints relative to the Building Code, Land Use Code, and all code compliance ordinances and resolutions, and provides information to the public and referral agencies over the phone and at the counter; explains Code Compliance policies and procedures.
Researches and reviews information regarding parcels and buildings; determines status, permit history, and follow-up; develops documentation regarding the history of the violation.
Provides information to property owners, general public, contractors and County staff regarding enforcement of County regulations and codes, including the purpose and application of regulations and codes.
Prepares and serves notice of violations, abatement orders, corrections, and stop work orders related to Land Use and Building code regulations; prepares reports, legal documents, memos, and letters.
Maintains and updates computer record keeping and filing systems for Land Use Code, Building Code, and Graffiti and Rubbish ordinance violation files.
Prepares and assists in the preparation of staff reports.
Identifies, assists and guides property owners through the various processes required by County departments.

Two (2) years general or legal office experience involving heavy public contact and computer usage; and two (2) years’ experience in building construction, building code compliance, and/or land use/zoning code.
High School diploma or GED with supplemental coursework in general or legal clerical and computer functions is required; completion of relevant coursework related to Building Code or Land Use/Zoning Code enforcement to effectively understand the codes subject to enforcement is preferred.
Certifications related to Building and Land Use/Zoning Code enforcement preferred.
Experience with heavy public contact, conflict resolution, legal procedures and enforcement processes is preferred.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver’s License.

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
