    For this Civil Engineering III position, we are seeking an innovative, flexible and skilled engineer to join our Development Services and Stormwater Group. The team is relatively small and is responsible for a wide variety of duties often on deadline and in coordination with other groups, departments, or customers. The ideal candidate for this position will have specific knowledge of stormwater design, standards, and fees,  floodplain management,  and have the ability to manage projects, self-direct and direct others.  This person will also needbroad skills in other civil engineering related areas, be familiar with construction and material testing methods, , have a cooperative attitude, and excellent communication and coordination skills.


    The major areas of work include:

    • Administers the County Floodplain Permitting process and helps facilitate and coordinate the County Flood Review Board.
    • Performs engineering / technical review of various floodplain development proposals for both public and private projects within Larimer County for conformance with County, State and Federal floodplain regulations.
    • Assists with reviews of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and stormwater designs for a variety of types of development review and capital projects.
    • Manages the County approved stormwater master plans and associated stormwater fees.
    • Directs, assists, and trains lower level engineering and clerical persons.
    • Performs engineering / technical review of various land use and development proposals for both public and private projects within Larimer County. This includes providing feedback at concept-level meetings, and review of construction plans and technical reports prepared by civil engineering consultants for conformance with County engineering policies, design standards, and land use regulations (such as traffic, site layout, grading, road design, stormwater drainage design, and erosion control).
    • Writing technical review comments, and presenting engineering related county positions at Board of County Commissioner and Planning Commission meetings. The position interacts with and assists applicants, and works closely with the Community Development Department on a variety of issues. Once projects are approved, the position also oversees development construction.
    • Research and respond to citizen inquiries concerning access, drainage, grading, floodplain, or stormwater discharge.
    • Perform field inspections of various engineering or development related projects to monitor progress and ensure conformance to plans, Codes, and standards.
    • Help facilitate administration of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit program.

    • At least six (6) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
    • Registration, or ability to obtain, as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado is required.
    • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field required.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.
    • An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
