    Larimer County is located in north central Colorado. It is the sixth largest county in Colorado based on both population and land area. The county extends to the Continental Divide and includes several mountain communities and Rocky Mountain National Park. The County encompasses 2,640 square miles that include some of the finest irrigated farmland in the state, as well as vast stretches of scenic ranch lands, forests and high mountain peaks. Over 50% of Larimer County is publicly owned, most of which is land within Roosevelt National Forest and Rocky Mountain National Park.

    For this Civil Engineering II position, we are seeking an innovative, flexible and skilled engineer to join our Development Services and Stormwater Group. The team is relatively small and is responsible for a wide variety of duties often on deadline and in coordination with other groups, departments, or customers. The ideal candidate will have broad skills in civil engineering related areas such as road design, stormwater design, floodplain management,  and erosion control and water quality best practices. They will also be familiar with construction and material testing methods, have the ability to self-direct, have a cooperative attitude, and excellent communication and coordination skills.

     

    The major areas of work include:

    • Performs engineering / technical review of various land use and development proposals for both public and private projects within Larimer County. This includes providing feedback at concept-level meetings, and review of construction plans and technical reports prepared by civil engineering consultants for conformance with County engineering policies, design standards, and land use regulations (such as traffic, site layout, grading, road design, stormwater drainage design, and erosion control).
    • Writing technical review comments, and presenting engineering related county positions at Board of County Commissioner and Planning Commission meetings. The position interacts with and assists applicants, and works closely with the Community Development Department on a variety of issues. Once projects are approved, the position also oversees development construction.
    • Research and respond to citizen inquiries concerning access, drainage, grading, floodplain, or stormwater discharge.
    • Assist in the development, refinement or revisions of standards, policies and/or procedures.
    • Serve as technical resource to public, consultants, developers, County Boards, County Staff, and others.
    • Perform field inspections of various engineering or development related projects to monitor progress and ensure conformance to plans, Codes, and standards.
    • Help facilitate administration of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit program.

    Qualifications:

    • At least three (3) to six (6) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
    • Engineer-Intern Certification required.
    • Registration, or ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado preferred.
    • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field required.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.
    • An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
