    Natural Resources manages Larimer County's great outdoor places, including open spaces and magnificent water-based recreation areas, and fosters responsible land stewardship through weed management and healthy forest practices.


    Our mission is to establish, protect, and manage significant regional parks and open lands providing quality outdoor recreational opportunities and stewardship of natural resource values.     Larimer County Natural Resources department has 40+ benefited employees and 125+ seasonal and part time employees.


    This position is a temporary seasonal full time position, working up to 40 hours/week for less than 6 months from April - October.  


    Work Schedule:

    • Schedules are subject to change depending on weather
    • Weekends and holidays may be required depending on duties
    • 40 hours a week


    Location:  Horsetooth Reservoir Shop, and county parks and open space properties


    Specifically this position will:

    • Experience in ranch and agriculture
    • Operate electrical and gas powered tools
    • Assist in performing plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, farm and ranch, natural resource restoration and other trade skills
    • Work with heavy equipment operators
    • Operate a variety of heavy equipment including tractors, bobcats, and backhoes, skid-steer, and truck & trailer
    • Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Hazards associated with the work and proper safety precautions
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
    • Follow written and verbal instructions
    • Use and maintain tools and equipment
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.


    • Three months to one year of experience in general maintenance/construction, landscaping and/or agriculture and ranching.
    • High School Diploma or GED desired
    • Possession of valid Colorado Driver License required
    • Commercial Motor Vehicle Experience preferred
    • Prior experience operating related equipment desired
    • Prior work experience in natural resources and agriculture ranching desired.
    • CPR and First Aid Certifications strongly desired
    • Experience in the use of hand tools, power tools, ranching tools, and heavy equipment desired

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to push, pull, and lift heavy objects
    • Stand and walk for long periods of time and walk long distances over rough terrain

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
