  • Overview

    The Larimer County IT Department is seeking a GIS Specialist to join our team whose primary focus will be creating and maintain Larimer County’s Parcel datasets.  Our ideal candidate will be open to trying new things, and excited to work on a small but progressive and forward-thinking team.   In this role, you can expect to provide research, data conversion, data maintenance, project support, map creation, and related mapping functions associated with the delivery of the County's enterprise-wide GIS & Mapping Services to our customers - the staff and citizens of Larimer County. This is a full-time temporary position with benefits that offers the ability to move to a full-time regular role.


    This is a full time temporary benefited position lasting up to 12 months with the possibility to become a permanent position.


    Job tasks in this role include:

    • Using coordinate geometry (COGO) software tools for creating metes and bounds legal descriptions. 
    • Working with relational database fundamentals and GIS feature attributing.
    • Designing and creating custom maps.
    • Maintaining layers of GIS features such as tax parcels, streets, buildings, jurisdictional limits, facilities, etc.
    • Performing data quality control procedures.
    • Entering coding for parcels, tracts and new subdivisions and other real property from deed descriptions.
    • Identifying and editing map errors and data inconsistencies.
    • Preparing maps and data records as necessary for quality assurance procedures or in response to customer requests.
    • Consulting with users to determine their GIS mapping needs.

    Our Ideal Candidate possesses the following competencies:

    • Intermediate working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS product lines as they relate to creating and maintaining spatial data.
    • Understanding of Public Land Survey System (PLSS) framework.
    • Working knowledge of tax parcel and cadastral database terminology and how it relates to conversion of parcel information into GIS datasets.
    • Familiarity with relational database fundamentals and GIS feature attributing.
    • Ability to read and interpret surveys, deeds, and plats as they relate to GIS data.
    • High level of attention to detail.
    • Ability to be flexible in day-to-day work.


    • Two (2) years’ experience in geographic information systems technology and working in the mapping field performing a variety of duties in land records research, including a complete understanding of cartography, drafting, and mapping principles or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities, required.
    • Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent where two (2) years of experience can substitute for one (1) year of education required.
