The Correctional Services Specialist I supervises and monitors inmates or offenders placed under a court-ordered custody or alternative sentencing program. This is an entry-level position wich offers the opportunity to train for a career in criminal justice. Work is characterized by development of basic and routine skills and knowledge required to perform the job, such as skills in conflict resolution and crisis intervention, understanding the workings of a correctional or detention environment, and understanding inmate or criminal behavior.
Successful candidates will work with Larimer County Criminal Justices Services at either the Alternative Sentencing Department or Community Corrections Department to supervise offenders as they complete a court-ordered custody or alternative jail program. Tasks in this role vary based upon assignment but can include: supervision of offenders in a half-way house or work release facility, supervision of off-site work crews, monitoring offender living areas, monitoring and dispensing medication, conducting orientations to explain facility rules and procedures to offenders upon arrival at the facility, and numerous other tasks. Work in either Department will involve directly working with offenders in a criminal justice setting.

This is a divisional posting for the Correctional Services Specialist I eligibility list, which will be used as positions within the Larimer County Community Corrections Department and the Larimer County Alternative Sentencing Department become available.
Both departments are 24/7 residential facilities. Successful applicants must be able to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts. Must be able to work holidays.
May be subject to on-call/mandatory overtime.
Assessment testing will be administered.
An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
