  • Overview

    The Larimer County Solid Waste department is looking for a skilled individual that can lead our communications and engagement as we construct our new landfill in Wellington Colorado. 


    This person will assist in the development and implementation of strategies to promote department activities and inform the community through the press, social media, website, community presentations and events, and other channels as appropriate. This person will also conduct community assessments, internal communication campaigns and data analysis when necessary.

    Specifically this person:

    • Prepares content for and/or designs E-newsletters, brochures, signage, and various outreach materials.
    • Develops, manages and analyzes web and social media content and interaction in conformance with all communication guidelines and brand standards
    • Assists and provides information to the media including press releases, and may coordinate news conferences, radio, television, and print interviews as directed.
    • Facilitates and participates in outreach events and activities; represents the County/Department.
    • Responds to inquiries from the public, news media, or others by providing information directly or referring to appropriate staff person.
    • Maintains effective working relationships with members of the news media and communication representatives from other agencies.
    • Possesses exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 
    • Has the ability to maintain composure and professionalism when faced with negative interactions with the community.

    • Two (2) years' experience in a position that requires communicating and engaging with the public, preferably in a public sector agency required.
    • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Communication, Journalism, or a related field required.
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License required.

    This position is Full Time limited term expected to last 3-4 years (possibly longer).  Individuals hired into limited term positions are eligible for County benefits, however, the position is limited in duration dependent upon available funding, business need or signed contract or agreement.
