  • Overview

    Larimer County Engineering is seeking three skilled and detail-oriented individuals to join our Traffic Operations, Asset Management, and Stormwater teams as Engineering Interns. These positions perform a variety of technical field and office work including traffic counting, traffic studies, non-paved road inspection, roadway asset inspection, stormwater inspection, and data maintenance. Field work is in unincorporated Larimer County including plains, foothill, and mountain locations.


    This is a limited term, full time position from May 18th through August 21st, 2020. This position is only available to current college students having completed at least their Sophomore year.


    Specifically, these positions:

    • Perform traffic counts and traffic studies
    • Perform visual inspections of nonpaved roads
    • Inventory roadway assets (bridges, culverts, signs, sidewalks, etc.)
    • Perform stormwater related data collection and inspections
    • Data entry and maintenance using various departmental systems

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.


    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.
    • Completed at least the sophomore year of study in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field and are continuing studies in the fall.
    • Be experienced in using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software on a personal computer utilizing a standard computer keyboard.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Perform physical activities associated with field data collection from drainage ways, bridges, or other road systems features including standing and walking for several hours at a time and working out-of-doors in various weather conditions.
    • Perform job activities and physical demands requiring strength to lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise move survey equipment and objects up to 50 pounds. Additional demands on a constant basis for talking, hearing, listening, ordinary conversation, seeing (near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, field of vision), and gross and fine motor skills coordination while standing, walking, and kneeling for long periods of time.

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
