Overview

The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is looking for a Population Epidemiologist to join our team.

 

The Population Epidemiologist will performs advanced epidemiology, biostatistics, health planning and program evaluation work for Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE). Additionally, the Population Epidemiologist will apply epidemiological and statistical methods to understand the distribution and determinants of disease in populations in order to generate knowledge which will be used to guide decision-making and prioritization surrounding LCDHE's efforts to improve population health. This includes providing current research, data management, and statistical analyses for evidence-based decision-making, conducting community health assessments, using data for program planning and evaluation, grant applications and policy development.

Details

Specifically, this person will:

  • Provides descriptive and inferential statistics and data visualizations to support data-driven decision making for population-based program planning.
  • Develops and applies epidemiological approaches to understanding the distribution and determinants of disease in populations in order to generate knowledge to guide decision-making and prioritization surrounding LCDHE’s efforts to improve population health.
  • Works directly with LCDHE staff to conduct needs assessments, plan programs, formulate goals and measurable objectives, identifies process and outcome measures, and establishes indicators of effectiveness and success.
  • Leads development and updating of the Community Health Assessment that guides LCDHE's Strategic Planning and Community Health Improvement Planning efforts.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be familliar with Epidemiologic principles, techniques, practices, and procedures as related to public health planning, evaluation, needs assessment, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Have experience with quantitative and qualitative research and primary data collection methods including survey design, focus group design, key informant interviews. 
  • Have a background analysing data and communicating findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Be comfortable guiding data-driven decision making processes

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health planning, or a related field is required.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience working at a state or local public health agency, health care setting, or directly related field, with duties and similar responsibilities related to epidemiology, communicable disease and emergency preparedness and response required.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License within 6 months of hire required.

 

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
