Overview

Larimer County's Fleet Services Department is looking for an Equipment Maintenance Technician. The Equipment Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the mechanical repair, servicing, and maintenance of light and heavy gasoline and diesel driven equipment and vehicles. This position will be instrumental in making sure our fleet is running safely and efficiently.

Details

Specifically, an Equipment Maintenance Technician:

  • Performs general overhaul, tune-up, and repairs work on automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, and heavy and light equipment.
  • Repairs and overhauls hydraulic and air brakes, ignition systems, transmissions, differentials, and front and rear axle assemblies; repairs and installs hydraulic pumps and controls; inspects, repairs, overhauls and assembles electrical equipment such as alternators, distributors, magnetos, starters, and computer equipment.
  • Performs field or shop inspections of heavy and light equipment to determine repair needs and estimate cost of repairs; makes field repairs when possible.
  • Performs lubricating and servicing of heavy and light equipment.
  • Removes and replaces carburetors, fuel injection components and fuel pumps, cooling system, emissions, and exhaust components; relines light and heavy-duty brakes.
  • Performs major and minor power plant repairs.
  • Uses a personal computer and assigned software to prepare work orders, records time spent, and parts used for vehicle maintenance and repair, and creates records and reports related to Fleet maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required with a strong background in electrical and computerized system troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair.
  • High School diploma or GED required, supplemented by specialized mechanical training required.
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a Class " B " CDL. at the discretion of the Fleet Director, depending upon necessity and position required.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six months, at least two Automotive Institute of Excellence (ASE) certifications in Automotive or Heavy Truck required.

 

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
